If you find yourself in a position where you are attempting to take a firearm away from your attacker, you need to be aware of where that gun is aiming. Refusing to be the victim is a good step towards keeping yourself safe, but you must also keep yourself constantly aware of what dangers are present to your life at the time of the incident. In the video you are about to watch, a store clerk at a convenience store refuses to become the victim of an armed robbery. His attacker is wielding what appears to be a shotgun of some sort, and when he makes his grab for the attacker’s weapon, he doesn’t stay aware of where the muzzle is pointing. Fortunately, the situation does not turn bad for him before he gets full control of the weapon.
At the beginning of the struggle, the clerk does a good job of putting himself out of harm’s way. He grabs for the weapon and appears to push it off over his shoulder so he is out of the line of fire should the weapon be discharged. Once the struggle begins however, the clerk loses sight of this and ends up in a tug-of-war match with the armed robber, one that places the barrel of the shotgun directly in his chest cavity. Had this situation gone worse the attacker could have on purpose, or accidentally discharged the weapon one time. At the range the clerk is from the shotguns barrel during the struggle, he would have died almost instantly. Keeping yourself away from the dangerous end of a weapon should be your highest priority if you find yourself in a struggle like this one, because in a single second the attacker could choose to pull the trigger and end your life.
