NAA mini-revolver ammo test Hornady Critical Defense .22 Magnum

The North American Arms mini-revolvers are fascinating little firearms, incredibly tiny and capable of packing quite a little punch. This is the third in my series of ammo tests for the NAA Black Widow in 22 Magnum.

The ammo for this video was kindly supplied by one of the viewers of my channel, so thanks to all of you who have donated for testing!

The ammo in this test is Hornady's Critical Defense, 45-grain FTX hollow point in .22 Magnum (.22 WMR), part #83200.

The test barrel length was 2", from a NAA Black Widow.

The ammo in this test is specifically designed to be compatible a short-barrel pistol. The company's ballistic information states that it is designed to deliver 1,000 feet per second from a 1 7/8" barrel, and in my testing the Black Widow's 2" barrel delivered an average of 1,002 feet per second.

I used ClearBallistics synthetic ballistic gelatin to determine the penetration and expansion characteristics for the bare gelatin shots, and genuine professional organic 10% ballistic gelatin for the denim shots.

Note: I'm not making any claims for these videos other than that these are the results I achieved, in my own testing, from the stated pistol(s). I have no intention to make a blanket endorsement or indictment of any product, only to review and report what I found in a given instance. Obviously it is incumbent upon each individual to conduct their own research and make up their own mind about which defensive ammunition is best for their own purposes, in their own firearms. Also keep in mind that individual firearms can be persnickety; my pistol may feed or fire a particular round consistently whereas your pistol might not work as well with those rounds, so -- please conduct your own testing before trusting any particular ammo.

The standards I use to judge bullet performance are the standards established at the 1987 and 1993 Wound Ballistics Conferences, and subsequently adopted by the FBI.
